In the last few days, I have noticed that a lot of map submissions are not done properly. In most of the cases, this ends with the thread being locked and the map not being accepted. I decided to write this as a complete tutorial on how to make a proper map submission. In this tutorial, I will summarize the content of the stickied threads about map submissions guidelines and I will also add some tips for builders who want to submit their maps to The Hive. I think that this would be useful as, in my opinion, there are too many stickied threads in this section and the rules sometimes are not so clear. So, let's start!

The Golden Rule: The Hive wants only EXCLUSIVE maps
    • DON'T include a download link for the map on your thread.
    • DON'T share the map with anyone (except with the owners of The Hive).
    • DON'T submit the map to other servers (eg. MCSG)
    • DON'T submit a map to another server if you have already submitted it to The Hive.
    • DON'T use the map in your server (if you have one).
    • DON'T post a map which is already published on another website (eg. Planet Minecraft)
    • DON'T post a map that you didn't create.
How to show the map to the community
    • DO make a lot of screenshots
    • DO upload the screenshots on Imgur.com
    • DO include the screenshots on the thread with the [img] tag
    • DO make a video/cinematic of the map (if you can)
    • DON'T make screenshots with a texture pack or shaders enabled (make sure to show the map as how a vanilla user would see it); texture packs and shaders should be used only for videos / cinematics.
    • DON'T use a low render distance for your screenshots.
How to post a good submission thread
    • DO tag your thread properly (so people know for which game the map was made)
    • DO tell us about your map (but make sure to write in a good English)
    • DO credit all the people who helped you building the map.
    • DON'T post maps which are 10%-25% complete (70%+ is fine)
    • DON'T post a thread for a map that you are planning to do.
How to interact with the community
    • DO ask for feedback from the community.
    • DO accept constructive critiques, if there are, because they help you to improve your map.
    • DON'T argue with people.
    About Survival Games maps
    About Herobrine maps
    About Trouble in Mineville maps
About Hide&Seek, Splegg, One in the Chamber/Cranked maps
    • DO read this thread for learn more about maps guidelines:
      http://forum.hivemc.com/threads/16222/
(for Cranked the guidelines are the same of OITC)
    • DON'T use extreme FOV for screenshots, because makes it hard to determine the real proportions of the map.
    About Cowboys & Indians maps
    • DO make sure that you map has the same features of the currently accepted maps, as there are not specific guidelines for C&I maps, yet.
I will eventually update this thread as soon as possible, with more suggestions and tips.

Nice! One thing: The ex in (Ex. MCSG) can be read as except instead of example. Users could think they may post their map on MCSG but not on other servers...

    Nice collection of general knowledge.
But one look into the Accepted Community maps makes me wonder about this one.
Rarely any accepted map was submitted without any enhanced screenshots.
Even though some used more enhancements than others, "do not make any screenshots with such means" seems not like the best idea.

As it is true that you should still provide a somewhat "default" insight on the map (in at least one screenshot - to see if it works that way too), it seems to be more important to present the map the best you can.

    Update on the Post below:
Ignoring the fact that almost every accepted maps has enhanced screenshots is an interesting approach. "Assuring" a theoretical scenario that was clear to begin with (and doesnt apply to most of the suggestions) doesn't cancel that..

My advice to mapmakers: Make sure to work on your map the best you can, the right presentation is a very important part of that. There are numerous suggestions added every day. If your Map doesnt stick out, it'll have a hard time being added. ;)

First of all, if you post non-vanilla screenshots, the community will ask you to post them.

I can assure you that if the map is good, it will get accepted even in vanilla.
